The Gauverband Nordamerika Inc. is an organization founded in 1965 for the purpose of promoting Bavarian and Tirolean folk dancing costumes, customs and culture; and establishing mutual fellowship.
The Bayerischer Trachtenverband is the umbrella organization that oversees the 24 regional Gauverbaende in Bavaria. The Trachtenverband issues a twice monthly newsletter and has an extensive website through which the regional Gauverbaende can also be accessed. The Trachtenverband publishes a Trachtenkalendar, a pocket size reference list with information about every Trachtenverein in Bavaria.

The organization began in Austria in 1895 as Naturfreunde among people associated with the emerging Social Democratic movement who enjoyed outdoor activities and began to build their own huts and overnight chalets.
The movement spread and it now has 600,000 members, 3,500 groups and runs some 1,000 houses mainly in Europe.
